From Rough Stone to Finished Specimen — The Champion Minerals Difference

Every cut, polished, or faceted stone offered by Champion Minerals is processed right here in Utah. We don't purchase finished works, and we don't artificially dye our stones to enhance their appearance.

Instead, we source rough material, in bulk when possible, often from suppliers around the world then do the cutting, shaping, grinding, and polishing ourselves. Each piece is evaluated throughout the process, and only those that meet our standards make it into our inventory.

That approach comes with considerable risk.

Buying rough stone is never a guarantee of quality. I've invested thousands of dollars in material that looked promising when purchased, only to discover hidden fractures, poor coloration, undesirable inclusions, or disappointing internal structures once the cutting began.

Sometimes it's a handful of unusable pieces in an otherwise excellent batch. Other times, an entire shipment falls short of expectations. Photographs and descriptions can only reveal so much, and the true character of a stone often remains hidden until the first cut.

When that happens, the loss is mine to absorb.

So why do it this way?

Because it gives me control over the entire process, from selecting the rough material to deciding which finished pieces are worthy of being offered for sale.  Most vendors at shows are buying finished product, upping the price and re-selling it at shows, you'll never find that kind of product at my booth.

When you purchase a specimen from Champion Minerals, you're not simply buying a polished rock. You're purchasing a piece that I've personally processed, inspected, and selected.

And while the price reflects the time, equipment, materials, and risks involved in that process, it also means I've already taken the gamble on the rough stone so you don't have to.

What you see is the finished result, not a promise of what might be hiding inside.
